제목 Novel route for the preparation of polyvinyl alcohol/carbon nanotube composite membranes crosslinked by functionalized carbon nanotubes
초록 In this study, preparation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/carbon nanotube (CNT) composite membranes without the addition of crosslinkers is proposed where carboxylated CNTs serve as alternative crosslinkers. For achieving the simulated outcome as PVA/CNT composite membranes, multiwalled CNTs were first activated by bath and probe sonication methods, and the treated CNTs were subsequently functionalized in an acid bath consisting of nitric and sulfuric acids. PVA/CNT composite membranes including the CNTs treated by probe sonication exhibited sufficient stability against dissolution in water at 80 °C when the loading of CNT reached 1.5 wt.%, substantiating the proposed idea. The composite membranes were used for 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) dehydration in pervaporation mode, and long-term operation using a membrane with 1.5 wt.% CNT exhibited steady combination of total flux and water/NMP selectivity as ~0.06 kg/m2∙h and 3,500, respectively.
