Physical and chemical characteristics of Multiwall Carbon Nanotube with acid-treatment and its influence on the properties of Styrene Butadiene Rubber |

The effects of acid treated multiwall carbon nanotubes(MWNTs) and coupling agent on properties of MWNT/Sytrene butadiene rubber (SRR) are investigated in this work. The MWNTs oxidized using sulfuric and nitric acids were analyzed by the Raman scattering and FT-IR. The FT-IR results indicate the presence of -COOH acid groups in the treated samples, and Raman spectroscopy of the acid treated MWNTs further corroborates the information of surface defect due to the introduction of carboxyl groups. And the SBR-based nanocomposited were characterized using the SEM, electrical and thermal properties measurements, and tensile and fatigue properties measurements. The results showed that nanocomposites onto acid treated MWNTs enhanced mechancial and fatigue properties of nanocomposites compared to those containing MWNTs without acid treatment. But the electrical and thermal conductivity of nanocomposites decreased due to the formation of surface defect of MWNTs. |
