Safety remains a practical concern in batteries, which is closely associated with the shutdown function originated by the melting behavior of polymers at specific temperature. Non-woven separators offer high porosity, high electrolyte absorbance, low ionic resistance and good battery charge/discharge cycles. However, this type of separator exhibits insufficient shutdown function. In this work, non-woven separators with shutdown function were prepared by coating ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) onto the non-woven. We selected EVA as a shutdown material because of its low melting point at about 100℃. Then, we measured wettability, thermal properties, pore size distribution and porosity of the resulting separators. |
