Decoration of carbon nanotubes with gold nanoparticles |

Gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) are extremely constructive materials for photothermal therapy, imaging. Liposomes were used as drug carriers to deliver Au-NPs to the target site in vivo. Recently carbon nanotubes (CNTs) emerged as promising materials for molecular delivery in biological systems. This factor led us to study the preparation and characterization of CNTs having liposomal Au-NPs as a nano medicine with potential diagnostic and therapeutic ability in medical field. CNTs were functionalized with the phosphatidylcholine and similarly the Au-NPs were sorbed on them through physical sorption. Biophysical characterization of gold-loaded liposomes was studied by TEM and FTIR spectroscopy. TEM revealed that gold nanoparticles were loaded on the carrier constructed by CNTs and liposomes. FTIR measurements showed that Au-NPs made significant changes in the frequency of the CH2 stretching bands of acyl chains of phospholipids. The Au-NPs have good purity and crystalline nature by XRD studies. |
