Organic electroluminescent (EL) devices have potential applications as large-area flat panel displays. In these devices, organic emitter materials are excited by the carrier recombination. Therefore, it is important to balance hole and electron injections and transports to achieve a high recombination efficiency. In this study, three types of organic EL devices were fabricated by using dithienosilole derivatives as carrier (hole and electron) transporting and emitting materials, respectively. From the characteristics of the devices, it can be concluded that new dithienosilole derivatives work as emitting materials with bipolar carrier transporting properties.
