Tungsten bronzes have been drawn considerable attention in recent decades for their unique electric, optic, magnetic properties. Sodium tungsten bronze NaxWO3 are the most studied because their physical properties and structures dependent on their compositions, which become a n-type semiconductor for x0.25. We investigated the physical and optical properties of the sodium tungsten bronze by doping with a rare-earth metal, samarium. Depending on the composition of Samarium, the resulting Sm1-xNaxWO3 presented sharp phase transitions with wide temperature ranges and distinct differences in optical properties in each phase, possibly suggesting the usefulness for electrochromic and infrared screening applications. |
