The influence of plasma treatments on Titanium surface for Biomedical Application |

Titanium and titanium alloys are considered to be some of the most suitable biomaterials for biomedical devices, due to their outstanding chemical & physical properties and biocompatibility. Since most implants were exposed to blood during implantation, the correlation between blood compatibility and titanium surface has a significance. In this study, the morphology & wettability on the surface of the films were investigated according to the plasma treatment. Titanium samples were prepared, which were treated with various plasma gases. Plasma treatments were done using O2, N2, H2 and Ar gas, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy and Atomic force microscopy were used to compare the morphology. Contact angle measurement and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to evaluate the chemical property. With plasma treatment on titanium surface, the chemical & physical properties were improved and blood compatibility were suitable for implantation remarkably. |
