Petroleum-based engineering plastics have shown global problems, such as environmental threats from pollution, despite providing beneficial convenience to us. To this end, polylactic acid (PLA) has attracted widespread attention to change common petroleum-based polymers. However, their inherent properties make them substantial limitations in using the PLA; for example, brittle properties limiting its applications. Herein, we studied for an engineering approach to the investigation of finding optimized conditions for the high molecular weight of PLA and its copolymers with a narrow molecular weight distribution. In addition, the shape of PLA and its copolymers was importantly concerned for their tunable properties. To maximize their potential in using PLA-based copolymers, we designed the PLA copolymers with α-allyl ε-Caprolactone (CL) as a comonomer. The properties of the obtained PLA and its copolymer were compared and investigated. |
