For achieving an economical feasibility of microalgal biodiesel production, many technical challenges must be overcome. This study focused on the enhancement of microalgal lipid productivity by optimizing the cultivation conditions using sodium nitrate and glycerol supplementation strategies. A marine green microalga Tetraselmis sp. (KCTC 12236BP) was cultivated in F/2 medium supplemented with MBL artificial seawater (adjusted initial pH 8.2) under different initial concentrations of sodium nitrate and glycerol. As a results, higher initial concentration of sodium nitrate up to 750 mg/L (10-fold of NaNO3 in F/2 medium) significantly enhanced both biomass and lipid production. Glycerol supplementation did not affect the cellular lipid content, however, overall lipid production was increased due to the increment of biomass production. |
