Eutectic gallium-indium (EGaIn) alloy liquid metals have been reported to have low melting point, low toxicity and excellent tissue permeability, making them a popular research material. EGaIn is deformed by light irradiation and thermal control and reported as a vascular embolic agent. In this study, we developed liquid metal nanoparticles capable of delivering anticancer drug molecules and simultaneously inducing vascular embolism of tumor tissues. The liquid metal (LM)/ amphiphilic lipid (DSPC) particles thus formed carry doxorubicin, an anticancer drug, and are released together with the shape deformation of the particles by light or heat treatment. LM/DSPC particles are not toxic in cells and LM/DSPC/doxorubicin particles have anticancer effects on cancer cells through drug release. |
