Cross sectional morphology study of electrospun PVP(TiO2) coaxial nanofibers by transmission electron microscopy |
초록 |
A fundamental problem in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) imaging of polymer fibers is that the specimen must be extremely thin to ensure transparency to electrons. A convenient means of producing such specimens is the “lift-out” method, in which Focused Ion Beam (FIB) milling is used to prepare a very thin slice of the sample. The advantages are that we can choose the area of interest and the slice is made directly from a bulk sample without conventional cutting or mechanical polishing. In this work, we investigated electrospun core-sheath polymer nanofibers by TEM using the lift-out method. The fibers contain a silicone oil core and a composite sheath of polyvinylpyrroloidone (PVP) and TiO2. The fiber diameter was controlled by tuning the core flow rate under fixed sheath flow rate. Fibers were collected on hydrophobic as well as hydrophilic surfaces and the resulting morphologies were compared. |
