In this study, we firstly synthesized the advanced hypergolic chemical, N-methylpyridinium iodide, [MPy]+[I]-, by nucleophilic substitution. The successful synthesis of hypergolic chemicals [MPy]+[I]- was confirmed by IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy and, GC-mass spectrometry. Subsequently the hypergolic chemicals, [MPy]+[X]- (X= CN-, N3-, NO3-, NO2-, ClO4-), were prepared via an ion exchange reaction from [MPy]+[I]-. A mixture of hypergolic chemicals was prepared by dissolving the hypergolic chemicals in 2-hydroxyethylhydrazine. The properties of the mixture such as decomposition temperature, density, viscosity, and decomposition energy was evaluated to determine suitability for use as liquid rocket fuels. |
