Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) is a biodegradable polymer and the most used material for nanoparticle-based drug delivery system. However, PLGA nanoparticles demonstrate rapid recognition by the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS). Here, we propose a one-layer lipid-coated PLGA nanoparticle (PLGA lipid NPs) to increase the stability of nanoparticles by preventing the opsonization effect and enhance the drug delivery efficiency for chemotherapy. PLGA lipid NPs showed more stable size distribution over time than the PLGA nanoparticle without lipid coating (PLGA NPs). In addition, the PLGA lipid NPs demonstrated enhanced cell and tissue penetration in vitro and in vivo, compared to the PLGA NPs. These findings suggest that the lipid coated PLGA nanoparticles could be suitable platform for drug delivery systems. |
