Polypyrrolidone (Nylon 4) has attracted great attention by many researchers working on high performance synthetic fiber due to it’s high water-containing ability and excellent mechanical properties. However polypyrrolidone has poor thermo-stability, so it’s hard to be melt-spun. In this work, we synthesized homopolymer of 2-pyrrolidone by anionic ring-opening polymerization promoted by N-acyllactam, and investigated the effects of reaction variables such as reaction time, monomer/catalyst ratio, and amount of initiator. And also, in order to improve the productivity and thermo-stability of native polymer, we attempted to synthesize nylon-4 copolymer by introducing caprolactam as a comonomer in various contents. The prepared polymers were characterized by solution viscosity, NMR, TGA and DSC. |
