The cellulose fibers were treated by electron beam (E-beam) and fluorination to improve carbonization yield. The properties of surface treated cellulose fibers were analyzed by SEM, FT-IR, XPS and TGA. The surface treated cellulose fibers were carbonized at 800 ℃ during 1 h and the carbonization yield was measured. The cellulose fibers have changed to cross-linked cellulose as a result of the E-beam stabilization. The cross-linked bonds increased the carbonization yield of the cellulose fibers. Introduced fluorine functional groups increases the carbonization yield of cellulose fibers by increasing of double bond (C=C bond). The carbonization yield was increased 25.6% and 52.5% by E-beam treatment (1500 kGy) and fluorination (at 120 ℃), respectively. |
