Marine fouling can be a serious problem in the shipping industry, since it increases the surface roughness of the hull. One of the effective ways to solve this problem is to coat the immersed surface with the silyl ester group based paint as self-polishing coating(SPC). In this study, tert-butyldimethylsilyl methacrylate(tBDMSMA) was synthesized as hydrolysable polymer matrix for long-term controlled SPC. And S-1-dodecyl-S'-(α,α’-dimethyl-α''-acetic acid)trithiocarbonate(DDMAT) was synthesized as a reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer(RAFT) agent with polyurethane(PU). And then linear tBDMSMA-b-PU-b-tBDMSMA triblock copolymer was successfully synthesized by using PU chain transfer agent(CTA) in RAFT polymerization. In result, the chain length of tBDMSMA can be controlled by RAFT polymerization and the polishing rate of each sample was changed by the content of tBDMSMA. And sample names of SPC A3 and SPC B3 showed optimum polishing rate(5~6 ㎛/month) as SPC resin. |
