Several synthesis methods have been investigated for the growing of low-dimensional cerium dioxide (CeO2) catalysts on the monolithic support such as hydrothermal process. However, as another synthesis process must be needed to load noble metals to the CeO2, coating CeO2 catalysts loaded with noble metals on the monolithic support has remained a tremendous challenge. Here, we significantly mitigated this issue by one-step electrodeposition. We developed a simple strategy for synthesizing Pd catalyzed CeO2 (Pd-CeO2) on silicon carbide (SiC) monolith. Due to their hierarchical low-dimensional nanostructures and increased surface areas, the catalyst (Pd-CeO2@SiC) has high performance for CO oxidation at low temperature. More interestingly, the PdxCe1−xO2−δ species exist between platelets-like CeO2 and coral-like Pd clusters. There are metallic Pdo, PdO and PdxCe1−xO2−δ solid solution which formed during electrodeposition and heat treatment, so dispersed Pd species provide high catalytic activity and mechanical stability. |
