Application of Chitosan/PLGA Bilayered Nanofibrous Mat to Anti-adhesion Barrier |

Post-operative peritoneal adhesions are common and give serious complications for surgeons. They can cause pelvic pain, infertility, and potentially lethal bowel obstruction. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of bilayered nanofibrous mat containing non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug on the prevention of post-surgical tissue adhesion. For this, bilayered nanofibrous mats composed of chitosan and PLGA were fabricated by electrospinning method. The bilayered Chitosan/PLGA nanofibrous mat was characterized by several spectroscopic methods. Results from cytotoxicity and tensile test showed that bilayered Chitosan/PLGA nanofibrous mat was suitable for anti-adhesion barrier. From in vivo animal test, it was observed that bilayered nanofibrous sheets were significantly effective in preventing post-operative adhesion and wound healing. |
