Blends of poly(L-lactic acid)(PLLA) with poly(D-lactic acid)(PDLA) were prepared via solution blending. Drawn films of the blends exhibited endothermic peaks just above the glass transition temperature, which is a result of strain induced enthalpy relaxation. A thermodynamic model was proposed to determine intramolecular and intermolecular energy changes to strain-induced enthalpy relaxation. From the dependence of endothermic heat on the blend composition, the contributions of intramolecular and intermolecular energy changes to strain- induced enthalpy relaxation were determined. |
