In this work, the amino-functionalized graphitic nanofibers (TGNFs) are successfully modified using a tetraethylenepentamine to use as a reinforcement in epoxy composites. To validate the interfacial interaction between the GNF and epoxy, composites are fabricated using three different types of GNF, namely the bare GNF, the acid-treated GNF (AGNF), and the TGNF, each with various GNF contents. The optimal GNF loading for the bare and AGNF is shown to be 0.50 wt.%, while that of the TGNF is as high as 0.75 wt.%. The highest fracture toughness values of 25.8 MPa.m1/2 are demonstrated for the TGNF-loaded composites with the fraction of 0.75 wt.%, representing enhancements of ~400%, respectively, compared to those of the neat composites. |
