For two decades, although many researchers have studied the efficacy of paclitaxel on many cells, very little work has been reported on the importance of release kinetic inhibiting cell proliferation. Furthermore, the release mechanism has not been unsolved in biodegradable polymers due to its poor solubility. This study aims to understand the release mechanism on the kind and the concentration of biodegradable polymers (i.e., PLGA, PLLA and PCL). Through HPLC analysis, the release rate increased with decrease in the concentration of paclitaxel. Interestingly, although the degradation time of PCL is slowest, the release rate is fastest among three polymers at the equivalent paclitaxel content. The understanding of release kinetic of paclitaxel might be applied into the drug delivery carriers and stents. |
