Morphology control of asymmetric structure through side group engineering in organic photovoltaic |

Non-fullerene acceptors have gained popularity to alternate fullerene derivatives by eventually solving their main drawbacks in organic solar cell. Among those acceptors, A-D-A (acceptor-donor-acceptor) type small molecules were highly effective. In addition asymmetric structures showed advantages of easier energy level control, solubility, and morphology. New asymmetric n-type small molecule, Me-ITBD was designed and synthesized by side group engineering of PhITBD which was previously reported. By introducing methyl group into the core benzene unit, morphology was enhanced by increased torsional strain between thiophene moiety and the core unit. Optical, electrochemical properties, internal blend morphology and PSC performance were investigated utilizing various devices. Moreover, electronic properties were investigated by fabricating organic solar cell devices. Owing to the effective morphological control, Me-ITBD displayed much improved power conversion efficiency than PhITBD. |
