Hydrazine [N2H4] is advantageous for attitude control system of thruster because it is stable on space storage and the developed thruster are reliable for long term operation. However, its toxicity and relatively high vapor pressure increase the associated handling cost because special equipment must be used. Recently, ammonium dinitramide [ADN, NH4N(NO2)2] based monopropellant, a substitute for hydrazine, has attracted more research interest as a potential fuel for the next generation thruster system. The synthesized monopropellant composed of ADN and other additives such as simple molecular fuel was prepared and characterized focusing on thermal properties. We utilized pure water as main solvent, which is safe in handling, with controllable catalytic decomposition. The basic properties of the test sample, we obtained 1.25~1.45 g/cm3, Tc < 185℃, and -30℃ true density, decomposition temperature and freezing point, respectively. |
