제목 Mesenchymal stem cells differentiation in porous alginate hydrogels constructed with magnesium oxide as porogen
초록 Alginate hydrogels have many advantages as biomaterials for tissue engineering. However, one of the drawbacks of alginate hydrogels is the absence of micron-sized pores that support the proliferation and the differentiation of stem cells in three dimensional environments. It is known that stem cell fate can be guided by physical and biochemical signals of microenvironments. Herein, we utilized magnesium oxide as porogen to overcome the drawback of alginate hydrogels and investigated the effect of magnesium ions to mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as biochemical signals. We studied both mechanical and chemical signals to induce differentiation of MSCs in 3D culture environments. Alginate hydrogel-systems developed in this study can be potentially used in cell based therapeutic application as well as cell-mechanotransduction study.
