There is a growing concern about the harmful effect of Bisphenol-A on human health and although scientists do not fully agree on those possible health risks, BPA remains controversial. For replacing the BPA monomer, Isosorbide is most commonly used to synthesize bio-based polycarbonate. We are seeking to develop novel and green polycarbonates that might serve as suitable replacements for BPA-based PC. 2,4:3,5-Di-O-Camphor-D-Mannitol, abbreviated as a CM diol, is a D-Mannitol derived compound with the secondary hydroxyl groups ketalized with Camphor. The homopolycarbonate by CM diol was synthesized with DPC and recorded at 164 oC of the high Tg value better than that of BPA polycarbonates. The structures of CM diol and the molar contents of polycarbonates were detected by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 2D COSY NMR. The molecular weights and PDI were estimated by GPC and the thermal properties of polycarbonates were observed by DSC and TGA. |
