Preparation and properties of W/O emulsion oil and water separation by using electric field |

Impurities and acids of extra heavy and high acid crude oil have to be removed because the many acid components cause some problems of processes corrosion and crude oil quality deterioration. The acids are able to be removed by emulsion reaction. The impurities dissolved inside oil is separated during the emulsion formation. Separation methods of produced emulsion include chemical, microwave, filtering, and electrical. Chemical method has the disadvantage that must be treated separately from the remaining additives and water after separating. Electrical separation method does not need to add chemicals and it was known to have good emulsion separation efficiency than other physical methods. We studied the emulsion separation by applying the electric field. It changed the voltage, temperature, and pH to improve oil and water separation efficiency. We observed moisture, viscosity, salt content, and TAN(Total Acid Number) in W/O emulsion. |
