Recently, ultrathin multilayer films using layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly method has gained considerable interest because of their wide applications such as membrane, bioactive enzyme thin films, selective area patterning and light-emitting diode. In this study, we prepared multilayer thin films composed of positively charged polyelectrolyte carrying phosphorescent moiety and negatively charged PE. Furthermore, we systematically investigate the energy transfer phenomena in the phosphorescent multilayer films. In general, it is well known that the life-time of phosphorescence is about 10-3-10 sec due to quantum mechanically forbidden energy state transition. This relatively long life-time of the excited triplet state in comparison with that of fluorescence have much advantage of improving the sensitivity or selectivity for organic trace analysis. |
