CdS nanoparticles were prepared by using styrene-b-(ethylene-r-butylene)-b-styrene (SEBS) block copolymer. To increase the interaction between SEBS and CdS, sulfonated SEBS (S-SEBS) was synthesized with different degrees of substitution of sulfonyl group (5 and 10 mol% of styrene blocks). The synthesized S-SEBS was dissolved in toluene and the anhydrous CdCl2 is added into the solution followed by the addition of Na2S. After removal of NaCl with water, a transparent yellow solution of CdS/S-SEBS nanocomposites were obtained. In case of CdS/S-SEBS (10 mol%), the solution of CdS/S-SEBS in toluene showed absorption max. at 400 nm in UV-Vis spectrum. When the solution of CdS/S-SEBS was excited with a light of 400 nm, an emission band maximized at 475 nm was observed from fluorescence spectrum. CdS/S-SEBS (10 mol%) nanocomposites exhibited fluorescence quantum yield upto 20 % which was much higher than that of CdS/S-SEBS (5 mol%). The morphology of CdS/S-SEBS nanocomposites and the comparison studies on CdS nanoparticles prepared from different polymer systems will be further discussed. |
