The thermal behavior and mechanical properties of a commercially available liquid crystalline polymers(LCPs), Vectra T130, is characterized by TGA, Oxidation induction time(OIT), Chemiluminescence(CL), SEM, UTM, and IZOD impact tester. To compare thermal and mechanical characterization of un-aged and aged LCPs, we carried out aging of LCPs using gear aging oven at 280°C as a function of time. The analytical results in TGA showed initial and max. loss decomposition temperature decreased as aging time is increasing. Apparent activation energy (Ea) values of the un-aged and aged LCPs in thermal degradation were also examined, respectively. The surface morphology of aged LCPs, compared with that of un-aged LCP, showed increasing of roughness due to protrusion of glass fiber on surface of matrix by aging. Furthermore, we investigated mechanical properties of un-aged and aged LCPs |
