Polymeric nanocomposites from styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene(SBS) block copolymer and layered-silicates were prepared by a solution process, using THF as a solvent. The nanocomposition contains SBS, polystyrene(PS), and montmorillonite(MMT), and a small amount of plasticizer was added to improve the interaction between polymer resin and MMT. We also prepared nanocomposition containing dye such as phthalocyanine and Disperse Red 1. When 0.1wt% of dye was added to nanocomposites, we could observe the excellent dyeability of SBS/MMT nanocomposites. By addition of MMT, the transmittance and mechanical properties of the resultant nanocomposites were increased as compared to those of the composite without MMT. This was possibly attributed to the dispersion of MMT in polymer matrix with nanometer-scale, which was consistent with X-ray diffraction(XRD) results and the images of transmission electronic microscopy(TEM), showing the increase of the interlayer distance of MMT. Thermomechanical properties of nanocomposite by means of dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) will be presented. |
