Various kinds of polymeric systems were used for controlled drug delivery systems (DDS). The electrospun nanofiber could be also used for controlled DDS. But one of the important problem in the electrospun nanofiber system is the rapid initial release rate. In this study the controlled DDS was formed successfully using the coaxial electrospinning. The formed coaxial nanofiber system showed overcoming the rapid initial release rate problem. The coaxial nanofiber has the core-shell structure, and the drug is placed at the core part. Curcumin was used as a model drug compound in this study. Many polymeric materials could be used for shell and core material. But polycaprolactone was the representative polymeric material in this study. Usually, the different two polymers were used for shell and core in coaxial nanofiber, but the same polymer could be also used for them. The elecrospinning conditions to obtain an optimum controlled DDS were determined. |
