Currently, vaccination is being emphasized worldwide to overcome infectious diseases. To protect against the virus, repeated administration is essential to enhance the vaccine efficacy. For this reason, there is increasing interest for a non-invasive nasal vaccines, which are easy to inoculate. Nasal vaccines have advantages of inducing successful immune response. However, delivering of antigen intranasally have a huge disadvantage that the antigens have to penetrate the mucosal layer. Herein, we report a photoactivatable nano-vaccine that effectively delivered an antigen into the nasal cavity. Upon light irradiation after vaccination, the nano-vaccine was pass through the mucosal layer and effectively delivered to the antigen presenting cells. Additionally, the nano-vaccine induced the immune response by photochemical effect. The photoactivatable nano-vaccine is a new form of vaccination system and is expected to be useful as an effective strategy against infectious diseases. |
