A novel transparent fluorinated polyimide based on amide-imide oligomer (aiFPI) is synthesized and its optical and mechanical properties are examined. The precursor of amide-imide oligomer (pAIO) with amine groups at both ends is synthesized using trimellitic anhydride chloride and 4,4'-methylenebis(2-methylcyclohexylamine). pAIO is then reacted with 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) followed by chemical imidization to prepare aiFPI. In order to prepare conventional transparent fluorinated polyimide (cFPI) as a reference, 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diamine (TFDB), BPDA, and 6FDA are polymerized. Interestingly, the polymeric film based on aiFPI shows more outstanding optical properties than that based on cFPI, which results from the unique supramolecular interaction between amide-imide oligomeric blocks and imide groups in the aiFPI chains. |
