Cu(II) is present in wastewater effluents from industries because it is used in coatings, wire, electronic parts and as a catalyst. Cu(II) is known to be toxic to the environment and humans due to its non-degradable property, and thus the removal of Cu(II) from wastewater and industrial effluents is necessary. This study presents a simple and effective method of enhanced removal and selective recovery of Cu(II) from aqueous solution using a chitosan composite electrode in a capacitive deionization system. The electrode was composed of chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and activated carbon powder. Its physicochemical and electrochemical characteristics were investigated by SEM, BET, FT-IR analyses and by cyclic voltammetry, respectively. |
