Effect of random and gradient middle block on the phase behavior of A-(A-co-B)-B copolymer |

The self-assembled copolymers could be used as templates to fabricate nano-porous materials. They can also be added as polymeric surfactants to lower the interfacial tension, stabilize the dispersed phase and improve the interfacial mechanical strength of polymer blends. As copolymer sequences can significantly affect the phase behavior and interfacial properties of polymer materials,using the self-consistent mean-field theory (SCFT), we investigate the micro-phase (or phase behavior) of A-(A-co-B)-B copolymer as well as the effect of random (and gradient) middle block on the phase behavior of A-(A-co-B)-B copolymers. The comonomer distributions and domain sizes of equilibrated morphologies are systematically investigated and a comparison to the Monte Carlo simulation is made. The bulk and interfacial behaviors can be investigated by SCFT and could supply useful guidelines for selecting (or designing) suitable copolymers in the application of polymer materials. |
