Adsorption-desorption study of Sr(II) on alginate bead for recovery of Sr(II) from seawater |

Nowadays seawater is considered as important mineral sources according to depletion of mineral resources. Strontium(II) is one of alkaline earth metals and it is widely applied in various industries. Seawater containing 7~8 mg/L of Sr(II) and then it has a lot of potential to extract for application to industrial use. In this study, we synthesized alginate bead for recovery of Sr(II) from seawater and evaluate its Sr(II) adsorption characteristics. Alginate bead was synthesized by interaction of 2 wt% of alginate solution with CaCl2 solution. Physico-chemical properties of 2 wt% alginate bead was characterized by SEM and FTIR analysis. Synthesized alginate bead shows 110 mg/g of maximum Sr(II) adsorption capacity. Sr(II) adsorption on alginate bead is followed by ion exchange reaction between Sr(II) and Ca(II). |
