The styrene-butadiene block copolymers with different styrene to butadiene ratios were synthesized using n-butyllithium as initiator via solution method in the absence of a polar modifier, tetrahydrofuran. The molecular weights and molecular weight distributions of the resultant block copolymers were measured by gel permeation chromatography. The chemical structure, crystallization behavior and thermal property of the uncured copolymers were characterized by solution and solid state 1H NMR spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction analysis, and differential scanning calorimetric analysis, respectively. After that, the copolymers were compounded with sulfur and filler. The effects of copolymer composition on the vulcanization behavior, mechanical properties and phase morphology of the sulfur vulcanized styrene-butadiene block copolymers were determined using cure rheometer, universal testing machine and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. |
