In this study, Dowex Optipore V03, which is a hypercrosslinked polymer beads were modified through sulfonation so as to increase their hydrophilicity. The FT-IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis confirmed that the polymers were successfully modified. Physical properties of the polymer beads such as BET surface area, pore volume, apparent density, and pore sizes were measured. Morphological features of the beads were observed by microscopic analysis. Dynamic adsorption behaviors of the polymer beads toward benzene were studied. Microwave-assisted desorption of benzene from the polymer beads under dry and humid conditions was also investigated. The experimental results will be presented in detail. |
