As a means of developing polymer resins that can be employed in a microwave-based recovery system of nonpolar volatile organic compounds (VOCs), we have studies relationships between hydrophilicity/pore structure of polymer resins and adsorption /desorption behaviors. In this study, hypercrosslinked polymer beads with different pore structures were synthesized via tailoring the amount of crosslinker and diluent used, followed by sulfonating so as to increase their hydrophilicity. Pore structure of the polymer beads were determined using nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. Dynamic adsorption and microwave-assisted desorption behaviors of the polymer beads toward benzene were studied. The experimental results will be presented in detail. |
