In this work, activated carbons have been successfully prepared by using cation exchange resin as carbon precursor and ZnCl2 as activated agents. The activation process was carried out under definite conditions at different temperatures. The effect of activation temperature on the textural properties and electrochemical properties of the prepared activated carbons was studied. The activated carbons were analyzed via XPS, N2/77 K full isotherms, SEM, and TEM. The prepared activated carbons exhibited high specific surface areas and high pore volumes. From the results, the specific capacitances of the electrodes in electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) based on activated carbons are distinctly improved through ZnCl2 activation. |
