Effect of Pore Size in Low-pressure CO2 Capture by Activated Porous Carbon Nanofibers |

In this work, the new nanoporous carbon nanofibers with high adsorption capacity for CO2 capture have been successfully prepared using a mixture of graphite nanofibers and polyvinylidene fluoride as carbon precursor. The mixture of graphite nanofibers and polyvinylidene fluoride were activated with NaOH solution at different activation temperatures. The textural properties and morphology of the nanoporous carbon nanofibers were analyzed from the N2/77K isotherms and scanning electron microscopy(SEM), respectively. Systematic experimental investigation of a large number of obtained nanoporous carbon nanofibers with controlled pore size distributions and specific surface area shows that pores large than ~1.89 nm contribute little to CO2 adsorption. It has been experimentally demonstrated that pores of 0.6~0.7 nm in diameter provide the largest CO2 adsorption at ambient pressure. The effect of pore size was stronger than the effect of specific surface area on the CO2 adsorption. |
