Recently forward osmosis method (FO) has been recognized as one of the most promising ways among various trials to get clean water. FO uses high-osmotic solution, "drawing solution", to draw water from feed solutions, then solutes of the solution is separated to produce clean water. In this study we selected thermo-sensitive materials as alternative drawing solutes. Some thermo-sensitive materials show 'lower critical solution temperature' (LCST) phenomenon. So they can be used to draw water at low temp. and easily removed after phase transition at high temp. Derived from the structure of thermo-sensitive polymer, N-acylated tris(2-aminoethyl)amine having 356g/mol of MW was synthesized because polymers cannot induce high osmotic pressure. It shows phase separation at ~30℃. Based on the material, controlled conversion of osmotic flow and resultant desalination are presented. |
