Light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), which contain ionic transition metal complexes (iTMCs) as electroluminescent materials, are receiving increased attention for display and lighting applications. Among the iTMCs, iridium complexes are recently used for LEC applications because of its color versatility due to its higher ligand-field splitting energy. In this work, we have synthesized two cationic iridium complexes, [Ir(dfppy)2(dmdpphen)]PF6 and [Ir(dfppy)2(dpphen)]PF6, where dfppy is 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine, dmdpphen is 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline, dpphen is4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline and PF6- is hexafluorophosphate and were characterized by elemental analysis, ESI-MS, 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy. Light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) based on these complexes were fabricated using air stable electrodes at a low operating voltage and their electrochemical and electroluminescent properties have been investigated. |
