Raspberry-like gold nanoparticles (Au RLNPs) synthesized through the reduction of HAuCl4 using non-ionic surfactant (Brij35) and NaOH show high catalytic performance in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol and ethanol electrooxidation due to their high-surface roughness. However, Au RLNPs are easily changed to spherical or aggregated nanoparticles by treatment with acids, thiols, and cationic surfactants (e.g., CTAB), making it difficult to sustain the catalytic activity. To improve their stability and reusability, Au RLNPs were successfully encompassed within silica shell (Au RLNP@SiO2 NPs). Furthermore, the prepared Au RLNP@SiO2 NPs could be further encapsulated with titanium dioxide (Au RLNP@SiO2@TiO2), resulting in a catalyst with photocatalytic performance. |
