We focused on the facility of microfluidic laminar flow reactors in continuous synthesis of polymer particles. The microfluidic devices were fabricated by two kinds of methods. First method is using the photolithography technique for the preparation of channel by a master. The masters were prepared by selective photo polymerization of the SU-8 which is the negative photoresist. Second one is a simple soft-lithography technique by using PDMS. Polymer particles were prepared by the emulsification of monomer droplet in microfluidic flow focusing devices and in-situ photo polymerization. The droplet formation was captured by CCD camera. The results show that microfluidic-based synthesis is useful enough for production of highly monodispersed polymer particles in the various ranges of size, and also show that the viscosity, flow late, surface energy, morphology of devices, and interfacial tensions are important variables in microfluidic flow focusing systems. |
