제목 Characterization of Oligosaccarides from Sodium Alginate by hydrogen Peroxide
초록 Alginate is composed of (1-4)-β-D-mannuronate(M) and (1-4)-α-L-guluronate(G) units in the form of homopolymeric (MM- or GM-blocks) and heteropolymeric sequence (MG- or GM- blocks). High molecular weight alginate limits its application in specific fields caused by its high viscosity and poor solubility in water. Alginate has been researched to get the low molecular weight alginate by using enzymatic, chemical treatment, or γ-irradiation. In our previous study, oxidation reaction by hydrogen peroxide was much more effective than any other chemicals in lowering the molecular weight of sodium alginate. The kinetics of degradation by hydrogen peroxide was studied in the various reaction time and temperature. 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR results reveal the breakage of the glycosidic bonds of sodium alginate. The molecular weight of degraded sodium alginates was monitored by GPC-Light scattering, and the rate constant(k) and activation energy(Ea) of degradation were estimated with the GPC results.
