ZnO/MWCNT catalysts for electrochemical CO2 reduction |

The CO2 emission and its concentration in the atmosphere has been increased since industrial revolution because of the combustion of fossil fuels, which induced the severe climate change. Electrochemical CO2 reduction (ECO2R) is considered a promising process to reduce the emission of CO2 and to mitigate the climate change. Among various metallic catalysts for ECO2R to CO, Zn is one of the appropriate candidates to replace precious metal-based electrocatalysts, such as gold and silver, because it is earth-abundant, inexpensive, and shows highly CO-selective CO2 reduction reaction. Herein, to develop a Zn-based catalyst highly selective to CO, ZnO catalysts supported on multi-walled carbon nanotube (ZnO/MWCNT) with different ratios were synthesized and their catalytic properties were analyzed. The electrochemical tests of CO2 reduction for ZnO/MWCNT were conducted with an H-type cell and the selectivity and productivity of CO, formate and H2 were evaluated. |
