Furfural is derived from lignocellulosic biomass that can be converted into high value added materials. The nano-sized metal particle in catalyst have more active sites, which can increase the catalytic efficiency. Herein, we prepared the nano-sized Pt/C catalysts by deposition-precipitation method with various carboxylate stabilizers. The Pt dispersion was increased with stabilizer having dicarboxylate structure and long chain of carbon backbone. The Pt complexes produced by addition of stabilizer more effectively prevented the agglomeration between Pt-Pt. The Pt/C catalysts were evaluated for use in aqueous-phase furfural hydrogenation under mild condition. Catalysts with a higher Pt dispersion exhibited higher furfural conversion and higher selectivity for furfuryl alcohol. Using sodium succinate as the stabilizer, the optimum conditions afforded 100% furfural conversion and 86.6% furfuryl alcohol selectivity. |
