Polypyrrole-incorporating and their Heat-compressing Modification of Nafion for Electrochemical Devices |

Nafion, a ion-exchange membrane, is widely used in the electrochemical devices such as direct methanol fuel cell(DMFC) and ionic polymer-metal composite(IPMC) actuator. Here, we prepared the incorporated Nafion with the chemical oxidized polypyrrole and then, properly designed the multi-layerd Nafions by heat-compressing process to overcome the definite limitations; higher methanol permeation of DMFC and lower force generation of IPMC actuator. The modified Nafion was evaluated possibilities as a DMFC membrane by transport properties, and as IPMC matrix by electrochemical properties. To observe its morphology, the prepared membrane was characterized by element analysis, DSC, XRD, ATR-IR. Experimental results are demonstrated that this modification could lead to improving performance related with its morphology and operating mechanism. |
