Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has become one of the protocols for cancer treatment. POSS has the potential to act as a cross-linking core, due to its multi-functionality. In this study, we prepared polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) hybrid, functionalized with porphyrin and folic acid, as photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy. First of all, porphyrin molecule was modified to tailor their biocompatibility with triethylene glycol dendron and incorporated into the POSS cage. After that, folate was introduced in order to endow this hybrid with cancer cell selectivity induced by a specific interaction with folate receptors overexpressed on the surface of several types of human cancer cells. The ability of singlet oxygen generation and their photophysical property were evaluated and compared to free porphyrin. |
